I would have guessed 6, but none of the literature I can find has a 6 digit number listed for the SP-1's. Is it part of the serial number on my gun? I would think so. Mine has the 1 on it, usually the published serial numbers are pretty accurate, and I would think leaving off the "1" would be an issue. ![]() I've done my research and everything on this rifle checks out except the serial number part of the roll mark. My issue is that none of these use the serial number format I have, SP1 XXXXX, they all use SP XXXXX. Looking at purchasing a Colt SP1 locally that is being represented as a 1966 R6000 model. Now this site shows the SP1 produced until 1978. I have checked in the Blue Book of Gun Values and I think it places the production date close to 1976, within 100 of the end of the SP1 run.Ĭhecking this website, I think it puts it there also. I just got this rifle in a multifaceted horse trade and wanted to find a little more information about it.
